We’ve just had an unexpectedly hectic weekend, all because our latest consignment of rollators arrived early! And 23 pallets, each containing 7 rollators, is not the kind of thing you want to arrive early…
At Somerwood we specialise in width adjustable and height adjustable rollators. The delivery consisted of width adjustable rollators, which are designed for bariatrics – or large framed people weighing up to 45 stone (290 kg). The width of the rollator can of course be adjusted, but as you would expect each one is a substantial piece of equipment weighing about 15 kg.
Because the lorry arrived several days early, we hadn’t yet cleared any space in our warehouse. The driver had to return to the factory that day, so we had to unload the rollators immediately – with nowhere to store them! That alone took us nearly two hours.
Making sure the rollators remained in pristine condition was our top priority, so even though they had each been carefully packaged at the factory, we could not risk leaving them outside. Fortunately the weather kept fine – and even more fortunately we have a very helpful friend who runs a local jewellery business and had some spare room in his store.
So our weekend consisted of transporting 161 rollators on a fork lift truck through several miles of Essex countryside to our friend’s warehouse. I must say I can think of better ways of keeping fit!
